Our Team

Kerry Hood - President & Co-Founder

My name is Kerry Hood, and I’m the President and co-founder of Horizons to Hope. More importantly, I’m a mom to a wonderful son who lives with intellectual and mental health challenges. Professionally, I’m both a Pediatric and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and I’m married to my husband, Garrett, who co-founded Horizons to Hope with me. Together, we have two sons, Garrett (G) and Timothy (Tim). G was diagnosed with intellectual and mental health disabilities when he was between four and six years old.

As a mother who has walked this path, I understand how confusing and overwhelming it can be to find the right resources, services, and support systems. That’s why we created Horizons to Hope, to offer guidance, compassion, and practical direction for parents and caregivers facing similar challenges. My hope is that this space helps families feel seen, supported, and empowered to access the right help, connections, and opportunities for their children’s growth and well-being.

When we’re not working, our family loves spending time with our German Shepherds, Farley and Joy. They’re always ready for a walk, a game of fetch, or a cuddle on the couch. We’re true dog lovers. At one point, we even had six of them: five shepherds and a husky. Beyond that, our greatest joy comes from spending time with family and friends.

Garrett Hood - Financial Director & Co-Founder

I’m Garrett Hood, the Vice President, financial director, and co-founder of Horizons to Hope. I bring over 37 years of experience in retail and management within the automotive industry, which has taught me the value of strong leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my two German Shepherds, watching F1 races, following the Philadelphia Eagles, and being with my family and friends.

My connection to Horizons to Hope is deeply personal. I’m the father of a young adult who lives with ADHD, Bipolar I, Borderline Personality Disorder, and PTSD. From raising a bright and loving toddler to supporting him as a young adult, our family has faced many challenges and learned a lot along the way. I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be for parents and caregivers to find the right help and support.

That’s why I helped create Horizons to Hope, to give families practical guidance, encouragement, and a place to find the tools and connections they need. My goal is to make it a little easier for parents to navigate these challenges and feel supported along the way.

Maryann Sabo - Fundraiser Director

My husband Steve (RET USAF) and I live in Edgewater, Maryland, and both work for the government. We are proud parents of four children — three boys and one daughter (1989–2019). Our two oldest, Nick and Katie, were both born with special needs: Nick has cerebral palsy, and Katie had Rett syndrome. Both required wheelchairs and constant care. Though our journey has been filled with challenges, it has also taught us immeasurable lessons in love, strength, and perseverance. We are better people because of them.

In our family, we have faced PTSD, depression, anxiety, and intellectual challenges. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of what families in similar circumstances endure — the frustrations, the fears, and the fierce determination to keep moving forward.

I have dedicated much of my life to advocacy and community support. I served on the board of Parents of Preemies (POP) at Georgetown Hospital and was the Maryland State Representative for the International Rett Syndrome Association for over ten years, also serving as the state’s fundraising chair. In addition, I’ve been a member of the County Commission for Persons with Disabilities in Annapolis and have contributed to various church boards and support groups.

My mission is simple: to help those in need in any way I can. I understand the challenges parents and advocates face, and I will always fight for what our children deserve — and never give up.

I have a special connection to the Hood family, and knowing what they have endured, I feel called to support them in any way possible. Having access to an informative, compassionate resource — one that gathers everything families need in one place — is an incredible comfort. It gives people the strength to keep going, the tools to find answers, and the reassurance that others care and are walking the same path.

Theresa Savage - Treasurer

My name is Theresa Savage, though most people call me Terry. I grew up in Doylestown and currently reside in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Bloomsburg University and bring over 30 years of experience in public sector accounting and finance.

My first connection to individuals with mental and intellectual challenges began through my friendship with the Hood family. I have been part of G’s life since his childhood and have witnessed both the joy and the challenges that come with raising a child with special needs. Seeing Kerry and Garrett’s determination to find the right resources and support for G deeply inspired me and shaped my understanding of the ongoing struggles families face.

Today, I continue to see these challenges firsthand through my job at a school who services students with emotional needs.  Each day, I’m reminded of the dedication and strength it takes for parents and caregivers to support their children’s unique needs.

Outside of work, I’m the proud mother of two young adult sons and cherish every opportunity to spend time with them. I’m also fortunate to have wonderful friends and enjoy reading, walking, playing pickleball, and spending time at the beach whenever I can.

Heather Davis

Heather Davis. I grew up in Wrightstown, Pa. Went to Temple University and graduated with a BS in psych. Worked at a residential psych facility in Doylestown for 6 years as an Ancillary Therapist. I had moved up to Sellersville Pa. Then switched to working with individuals with Intellectual Disability as a Supports Coordinator, supervisor and for a time also as the director at Penn Foundation. It was while I was working at Penn Foundation that I met the Hood family and enjoyed working with them. I went back to school to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and got a MS in Organizational Leadership. After 30 years with Penn Foundation, I needed a change. I am currently working at a Personal Care Boarding home (Family and Friends) for individuals with ID, and Traumatic brain injury. I am currently working on getting my administrator’s license for this facility. It is with these experiences with both Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities that I hope to be of an asset to Horizons to Hope.

On a personal note: I volunteer at the Sellersville Museum. I am one of the 7 borough appointed people who run the museum. I am the secretary and also the collections manager there. In addition, I belong to the Washington Crossing Card Collectors Club and have held many different positions on the board there. Postcard collecting is something that I have been doing since I was a child. I enjoy travel and experiencing different cultures, food, music and history. My family is genetically predisposed to collecting so I grew up in a household with antiques. My grandparents had an antique shop, which my parents and now my brother continue on with. I had also volunteered for years at Fonthill museum and Mercer Museum both in Doylestown- both as a guide and working with the collection with one of the past curators.
